Becky Jarvis, 38 Degrees
Using digital channels to make things happen in the real world
Becky will talk to us about the pioneering campaigning work that is happening at 38 Degrees where she is Campaigns Manager. She’ll tell the story of the pilot project that happened in Cornwall to develop the Save the NHS campaign. She is a long time member, now campaigner for 38 Degrees. She spends most of her day helping make 38 Degrees campaigns happen by writing e-mails, blogging, managing projects, organsing events and supporting volunteers and members.
Becky grew up in south Wales. Prior to joining the staff team she worked campaigning for much needed change in the family sector for a children’s charity.
Jon Munro, Visit Wales
Content driven destination marketing
Jon will be talking to us about his experience at Visit Wales in using digital content to get more people to come to Wales on holiday. He has over 14 years experience, both client and agency side, across public and private sector. He heads up Digital at Visit Wales and he is Managing Director at Cinch, where services include strategy and planning, digital consultancy and supporting change. His sector experience covers travel, tourism, leisure, charity, events, software, apparel, fashion, online retail and B2B.
He is passionate about driving positive change and doing digital better. Beyond planning and effective project management he believes success depends on paying particular attention to the people that work within and to the business – plus a good dose of creativity and lots of fun.
Sarah-Leigh Wade, B&Q
DIY and digital content
Sarah will be talking about the part that digital content plays in B&Q’s communications and also about the organisation’s ambitious sustainability plans. Having working in fashion and retail for many years, Sarah is also an Associate Lecturer in Fashion Buying & Trend Forecasting at Southampton Solent University. She is also the founder of Hashtag Media UK consultancy services and the co-founder of the Bridal Boot Sale events group.
Matt Simpson, Zone
Bloggers and brands
Matt Simpson will talk about the relationship between brands and bloggers drawing on his own experience as a football blogger. He is the Editorial Director at independent digital agency Zone. Matt oversees content strategy and delivery and runs the large and growing editorial team. He and the team help brands such as Coca-Cola, BT, Tesco and Channel 4 connect with people in a digital world. He supports Leyton Orient.
Michael Blencowe, Sussex Wildlife Trust
Wildlife on your doorstep
Michael will describe his brilliant work to provoke local communities to talk about and share their experiences with wildlife online. He works for the Sussex Wildlife Trust as their Community Wildlife Officer. He’s based in Lewes and runs a packed programme of events all across Sussex celebrating the rich diversity of wildlife found in our county. Through these walks, talks and training courses he hopes to inspire people to become more involved with studying, recording and conserving the fantastic species and habitats of Sussex.
In his spare time he volunteers for Sussex Butterfly Conservation and (along with Graeme Lyons and Mat Davidson) presents ‘The Natural History of Sussex’ podcast each month.
Peter Stewart MVO, Eden Project
The Big Lunch
Peter is the Campaigns and Communications Director at Eden Project. He will be talking to us about the Big Lunch project which is led by Eden Project staff and which encourages people up and down the country to spend more time with the other people in their local community. Peter was given an MVO by the Queen for his involvement in making the Big Jubilee Lunch one of the biggest community celebrations in 2012 – there were a reported 8.5 million participants. He’ll share his experience and insight of the role that digital content played in making the project such a huge success.
